Connect to Claude

Connect your Wander map to Claude, the AI assistant from Anthropic, and you can manage your map by chatting: ask questions about it, fix missing details, build lists, and more. Setup takes about five minutes, and you only do it once.

Before you start

You need three things:

1. Your Wander sign-in. Use the same Google, Apple, or email account you use to sign in to the Wander Builder for your organization.
2. A Claude account. Any plan works: Free, Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise. The Free plan allows one custom connector, so Wander would be your one.
3. The Wander connector address. Copy it now; you will paste it in Step 1.

Set it up on a computer

Do the setup at claude.ai in your web browser or in the Claude desktop app. Once Wander is connected there, it also appears in the Claude app on your phone the next time you sign in.

Step 1: Add Wander to Claude

1. In Claude, click Customize in the left sidebar, then Connectors. (Some versions of Claude call this Settings → Connectors.)
2. Click +, then Add custom connector.
3. For the name, type Wander.
4. For the URL, paste the Wander connector address from above.
5. Leave Advanced settings empty and click Add.

On a Claude Team or Enterprise plan?

Only an organization Owner can add a custom connector. Ask your Claude Owner to go to Organization settings → Connectors, click Add, choose Custom → Web, paste the Wander connector address, and click Add. After that, everyone on your team can find Wander under Customize → Connectors, marked Custom, and skip ahead to Step 2.

Step 2: Sign in to Wander

1. Next to Wander in your list of connectors, click Connect. Claude opens the Wander sign-in page, titled Connect to Claude.
2. Sign in the way you normally sign in to Wander: Continue with Google, Continue with Apple, or your email and password.
3. On the Choose a map screen, click the destination map you want Claude to work on, then click Connect map. Each map is marked Live, Draft, or Disabled. If your account has only one map, Wander picks it for you.
4. When you see Connected!, Wander hands you back to Claude. You can close the sign-in window once Claude is back.

Step 3: Turn Wander on in a chat

1. Start a new chat in Claude.
2. Click the + button at the bottom left of the message box, point to Connectors, and switch Wander on.
3. The first time Claude uses Wander, it may ask for your permission. Allow it so Claude can read your map.

Step 4: Say hello

Type this as your first message:

Initialize the session.

Claude asks whether you use Wander as a Publisher or DMO or as a Personal user. Answer Publisher or DMO, and Claude focuses on the tools for managing your destination map. Then try a few questions. These only read your map; they don’t change anything:

• “Give me a summary of my map.”
• “Which places are missing photos or descriptions?”
• “Are there any duplicate places on my map?”

Claude asks before it changes your map

For most changes, and every deletion, Claude first shows you a preview of exactly what will change. Nothing happens to your map until you say yes. A preview stays ready for 5 minutes; if you wait longer, just ask Claude to prepare the change again.

Working with more than one map

Claude works on one map at a time: the map you chose when you connected. To move to another map, ask in the chat:

• “Which maps can I use?”
• “Switch to the Downtown Walking Tour map.”

If Claude’s answers seem to be about the wrong place, ask “Which map are you connected to?”

Staying connected

You stay connected as long as you use Wander in Claude at least once every 90 days. After 90 days without use, click Connect next to Wander again and sign back in.

To sign in with a different Wander account, go to Customize → Connectors, click the ⋯ menu next to Wander, remove or disconnect it, and then repeat Steps 1 and 2.

Troubleshooting

“No maps found on your account” or “Failed to fetch maps” The account you signed in with isn’t part of an organization in Wander. Check that you used the same sign-in you use for the Wander Builder. If it still fails, ask your organization’s Wander admin to add you, or email support@wandermaps.com.

The Google or Apple sign-in window doesn’t open Your browser may be blocking pop-ups. Allow pop-ups for the Wander sign-in page and try again.

You see “Connected!” but Claude doesn’t come back Switch back to Claude yourself. In the desktop app, click Open Claude Desktop; on the web, return to your Claude tab. Wander is connected either way.

Claude says it doesn’t have Wander tools Wander is switched off in this chat. Click + → Connectors and switch Wander on.

Claude can’t do something you asked Ask Claude to report it to Wander. It sends a note straight to the Wander team so we can add what’s missing.

For technical teams

The connector address above is a remote MCP server using the Streamable HTTP transport. It works with any MCP client that supports OAuth sign-in: the client discovers Wander’s OAuth configuration automatically and uses the authorization code flow with PKCE and dynamic client registration.

In Claude Code, add the server, then run /mcp, select wander, and choose Authenticate to sign in:
