SDK changelog

wander-embed.js is a prototype and its API may change before v1. Every release is kept at a versioned URL so a production site can pin one build and upgrade on its own schedule. See Pinning a version for how to use these.

Story-map features for the site map. They need site embed 2.1.0; see Story maps.

New line methods setLines(lines, options), clearLines(), animateLine(lineId, options) and setLineProgress(lineId, at). They draw a trail or creek from its path ID, or any line from coordinates, and draw it on over time or as the visitor scrolls.
New terrain methods setTerrain({ exaggeration, duration }) and resetTerrain({ duration }), which raise or lower the map’s relief at runtime.
New appearance methods setAppearance({ dim, color, duration }) and clearAppearance({ duration }). They dim the base map while your places, trails, areas and lines stay bright.
setContext items take accent: 'glow' and accentColor, and its options take reveal: { stagger }, for glowing pins and a staggered pin entrance.
New hasCapability(name) reads the features listed in the embed’s ready.capabilities.
New events: linesApplied, lineAnimationEnded, terrainChanged and appearanceChanged.
The new methods return a promise:
- it resolves on the command’s completion event (setLineProgress: on its ack);
- it rejects on an error for that command, or after timeoutMs (default 8000);
- against an embed without the feature, such as 2.0.0, it rejects at once with code: 'capability_unavailable' and nothing is sent.
The SDK throws on a malformed argument, before sending anything.
A strict superset of 0.9.0: every 0.9.0 method keeps its signature and sends byte-identical messages. setContext sends reveal only when you pass it. Drop-in for 0.9.0 hosts.
wander-embed.js still serves 0.8.0.

New section methods setSections(items, options), highlightSection(sectionId, options) and clearSections(), and events sectionsApplied, sectionHighlighted and sectionSelected. They show named stretches of a trail or creek, each with its own label and badge.
setSections checks that labels are at most 60 characters and colours use #RRGGBB format.
The section methods work with the v2 site embed, which is the default /siteembed since the 2026-10-02 cutover. Before that they needed path: 'siteembed-next'.
Additive; drop-in for 0.8.0 hosts. wander-embed.js still serves 0.8.0.

New getEmbedVersion() method reports the version supplied by the embed’s ready payload.
New gettingHere widget with a Trip Race iframe and host-page attribution. It needs the /gettinghere page on wander-web, which is shipping separately.
wander-embed.js now serves this release.

Versioning policy

The wire protocol between the SDK and the embed is separate from the SDK version and is currently 1 (Wander.PROTOCOL). New verbs are additive, so an older SDK keeps working against a newer embed.
https://developer.wandermaps.com/sdk/wander-embed.js serves the version marked latest in versions.json (currently 0.8.0). Pin a versioned file to get a specific build.
Minor versions (0.x.0) may add commands, events and options. They will not remove or rename existing ones without a note here.
